Summary The Packaging Manager for Bud's Goods & Services is responsible for leading the packaging and labeling operations at our facility in Lakeville, Massachusetts. The primary operations of the facility will be the packaging of cannabis and cannabis products as a service to clients of the company. The Packaging Manager is responsible for a team of packaging and labeling technicians using sophisticated equipment as well as manual finesse to process and package a large amount of throughput.
The Packaging Manager develops work orders for the staff and determines the equipment schedules. This role also coordinates all materials required to complete a work order. The Packaging Manager schedules the packaging team and is responsible for their training, performance, and comfort with the procedures. This role ensures the team is working safely and kept safe at all times.
The Packaging Manager must be able to operate and oversee specialized automated packaging equipment and to keep the equipment clean and running healthy at all times. This role's success relies heavily on the successful operation of the facility's automated packaging equipment, therefore an understanding of mechanical and electrical systems is required.
The Packaging Manager's goal is for total client satisfaction and works hard to always adhere to Bud's Goods' high standards for quality and service to our clients and the terms of our client agreements. This role is responsible for the sanitation and proper batch change procedures to avoid potential contamination ensure our clients are provided safe and controlled products.
The Packaging Manager reports to the Director of Production and works closely with the Vault Manager. The Packaging Manager also works closely with Human Resources and Compliance. This role reports to Lakeville, MA Monday through Friday.
Job Duties
Responsible for the packaging operations of the facility including pouching, jarring, pre-roll packaging, case packing, and all associated label printing and application
Responsible for organizing and scheduling work orders for the packaging department
Plan production schedules which include scheduling staff and all necessary parts and products required for each work order
Deliver on departmental goals related to production, reducing material waste, accurate record keeping, improved first pass quality, and maximizing labor productivity
Maintain packaging records to comply with local, state, and federal laws as well as for Company reports.
Drive employee performance by giving clear directions and expectations, then providing meaningful feedback to aid performance.
Evaluate performance and activity of team members and provide appropriate feedback
Manage the effective cleaning and maintenance of the equipment used in the Packaging Department
Ensure a safe work environment by emphasizing safety training, safe actions, and providing proper PPE
Work closely with the Director of Production and Human Resources in the event of an accident on site
Estimate, forecast, and anticipate requirements for all packaging schedules and work orders
Report on the trends and variances discovered for every batch of cannabis inventory
Develop and initiate corrective action plans for minimizing variances and waste as well as for achieving productivity improvements
Develop high performing work teams within the packaging department through hands on coaching, training, and engaging team members through ongoing communications of program changes and performance goal attainment
Proactively review the established processes, identify improvement opportunities, and make recommendations
Provide strategic and tactical direction to the packaging team and key support to Director of Production
Maintain packaging department KPIs; set and enforce quotas, quality control, and safety expectations for the packaging and labeling team
Participate in the recruitment and hiring of staff for the Packaging Department
Prioritize and delegate responsibilities to the packaging and labeling techs, setting clear and attainable expectations for the workday and workweek
Provide regular training to staff on the safe and efficient operation of the equipment
Ensure the packaging operations are in compliance with all local and state laws, as well as the Company's operational standards
Serve as a leader and champion of Bud's values in the Packaging operations
Learn and operate software used for the company's Manufacturing Execution Systems
Superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills with proficiency of grammar and the ability to adapt tone/style to a variety of audiences

Ability to classify and triage issues and take appropriate action to resolve issues in self-sufficient manner

Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of related field experience
2+ years of management experience
4+ years of production or manufacturing experience, preferably with 2+ years in cannabis industry
Must have a solid understanding of the cannabis laws, rules and regulations and passion to further understanding and knowledge of the industry, regulations, market trends and competition
Experience with mechanical and electrical systems
Experience with MES systems
Proven track record of managing the scope of operations in a complex and highly regulated business environment
Cannabis product knowledge strongly preferred
Working knowledge of Metrc
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Able to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds
Able to work a fully flexible schedule including nights and weekends if necessary
Extensive use of hands, including repetitive movements

Must have a reliable vehicle
Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry
Must possess valid driver's license
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
Must be approved by Cannabis Control Commission to work in cannabis industry
