For some folks, the best chocolate chip cookie could easily be the original DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookie that this recipe is based upon.
The folks at DoubleTree (Hilton) say that there are more than 30 million of those cookies consumed every year!

To be honest, I believe that designating a cookie as the best is really a personal opinion more than something that is factual.

However, a cookie recipe that is copied and enjoyed often must get a lot of votes as a good choice. This cookie recipe is probably up there on the best chocolate chip cookie list.

There are some ingredient substitutions that we will need to make in order to make this copycat DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookie without sugar.

I should also mention that you will need to do a bit of ingredient juggling to make these lower in carbohydrates. Most specifically, subbing in the rolled oats with something low in carbs. Low carbers can try subbing in a Keto Oatmeal (I have not tried this) or ¼ cup of a keto low carb flour plus ¼ cup of almond meal (I think your binding should be okay).

Here are some more ingredient substitutions that you will need to make this sugar free cookie recipe.

I just mentioned that you can try to make this a low carb Copycat Doubletree Chocolate Chip Cookie.
To do so try subbing in the rolled oats with something low in carbs. Low carbers can try subbing in a Keto Oatmeal (I have not tried this) or ¼ cup of a keto low carb flour plus ¼ cup of almond meal (I think your binding should be okay).

Here are some more helpful cookie baking tips for you.

  1. Regular visitors to my site know this tip is almost always suggested. Always use fresh ingredients that have not expired in a recipe such as this to get the best results. This is especially true when it comes to your dry ingredients.
  2. DoubleTree says that it can take about two minutes to get the perfect creamed butter and sugar for this recipe. I suggest using a stand mixer to do this.
  3. Yes, cinnamon and lemon juice are essential to get the flavor right in these cookies. DoubleTree even mentions that while there is not a lot a lemon juice needed for this recipe, the lemon juice should be fresh.
  4. Use a cookie scoop that is about three tablespoons in size (that's what they use).
  5. Bake your cookies until they begin to brown around the edges. The center of the cookie will still be soft (yum!).
  6. An OMG! Moment!! DoubleTree notes that you can freeze the cookie dough (formed into cookies) and then simply bake it from the freezer! Is anyone else thinking of baking a cookie on demand whenever you feel like enjoying one??

Here is how to freeze these cookies to bake later.

Use your cookie scoop to form the cookie dough and place the formed cookies on to parchment paper just as if you were going to bake the cookies right away. If you place the cookies on to a parchment paper covered cookie sheet and freeze them, you can transfer the frozen cookies to a zip top freezer bag or freezer container for a more convenient storage.

What you will need to make this

How to make Sugar Free Copycat Doubletree Chocolate Chip Cookie

  • Preheat your oven to 300,prep your cookie sheets with parchment paper .
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and both sugars. They, and I, suggest using a stand mixer to do this. it will take a couple of minutes at medium speed to get to that desired creamy texture.
  • Turn the mixer speed down to low and add the eggs, vanilla, and lemon juice. Blend for thirty seconds then up the speed to medium and mix for a couple more minutes until it becomes light. You will most likely need to stop to scrape the bowl a couple of times while blending this mixture.
  • Bump the mixer speed down to low an add the flour, oats, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Mix until just mixed, about 45 seconds. To be honest, I usually suggest mixing these dry ingredients in a small or medium mixing bowl and setting it aside just after preheating the oven. The ingredients will mix into the batter more evenly if you choose to mix them together before adding them to the mixer.
  • Now, manually fold or stir in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.
  • Use a cookie scoop that is about three tablespoons in size to scoop the cookies on to your prepped cookie sheets. Bake for 18-23 minutes or until the the edges begin to brown (center will be soft). Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about an hour before serving.
