Recently, I had the incredible privilege of capturing Ginger Commodore's fantastic Tina Turner tribute at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater. Her voice was phenomenal, filling the entire venue with power and emotion.Ginger's a captivating performer and a powerhouse talent. She's a 3-time Grammy winner with Sounds of Blackness earlier in her career, having also opened for legends like The Jackson Five and The Pointer Sisters. Plus, she's a regular at the Dakota Jazz Club here in Minneapolis. There's something truly special about capturing the energy of a live performance, whether it's a concert or a theatrical production. It's a beautiful collaboration, at least from the perspective of a photographer – the artist on stage creating a captivating experience, and me working alongside them to create a visual record of that energy. It's a simultaneous creation of art forms, each requiring different skills but united in the moment.

A Heated Discussion-Revisited is playing through June 17th. Check the schedulefor times and dates available. ABOUT THE STORY: Living in these turbulent times of political, social, and racial unrest, imagine what would happen if historical icons of the past were summoned by three Yoruba African Orishas to offer their commentary on what is going on in today’s world. What would that encounter yield? This is what occurs in, A Heated Discussion-Revisited. The icons are Malcolm X, Zora Neale Hurston, Lorraine Hansberry, Dr. Martin Luther King, Maya Angelou, Tupac Shakur, Ida B. Wells, Dr. Francis Cress Welsing, James Baldwin, Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Richard Pryor, and lastly a mysteriously powerful figure who may offer the solution. Given that they are all very passionate, vocal, and controversial, their encounter can only be heated when they discuss the status of Black America today. What will they say? What choices remain for what many feel are the most troubled times for Black people in America since the 60s? It will be a provocative, smoldering, urgent discussion that is desperately needed. What solutions will arise to resolve police killings, systemic racism, historical bias, and the violent enmity that fuels these acts? Some of the solutions will shock you, or maybe not. “Open your ears” and Welcome to A Heated Discussion-Revisited.DURATION: At approximately 3:00 hrs. And a 10-minute intermission. 1st Act 1:30 and 2nd Act 1:30.Age Recommendation for audience ages 13+.

Normally a fan of everything Pretty Little Marketer share, but this one in particular has really caught my eye…As a marketer, daily tasks and rolling projects consume all our time and we forget to look back on what we have been doing and take those learnings into each month 🔭We are quick to analyse a campaign, and use data, insights and learnings to improve performance for marketing activity, but our individual performance and ways of working is only ever touched upon in 121’s or appraisals! We are responsible for our individual progress as a marketer, additional guidance and support along the way is a bonus ➕Personal critique and weekly reflection is about to be a repeat booking in my calendar 🗓️

The ancient philosopher Pythagoras believed that each of us experiences four lives: as a mineral, a vegetable, an animal and a human.Conceived, designed and directed by Theodora Skipitares, an award-winning interdisciplinary artist and theater director, the Four Lives has us diving into Pythagoras' quirky philosophy, finding ourselves in an immersive spectacle, bouncing between being a rock, a radish, and other random roles in our multi-life journey, guided by a symphony of puppets. It's a multi-sensory escapade that begs the question – in a past or future life, are we the main act or just background broccoli? This show is a fantastical blend of live music, puppetry, and existential fun, proving once again that being human is just one part of the cosmic gig.

Re/GeNeraTioN An Afro-Futuristic exhibition invites us to reimagine time, birth, life, and death. The work is an intersection with black cultural, spiritual and political practices and experiences. The exhibit reconceptualizes reproduction by aligning black hair as a vehicle to transport knowledge, history, and life narratives. The Re/GeneraTioN evolution carries ancestors’ adversities, epiphanies, and jubilation across visible and invisible terrains. These pathways hold memory yet invite and demand forward progression. How do our bodies move through time, dimensions, and spaces? What propels our spirits and keeps us moving as we coexist with the horrific and dehumanizing abuses of systematic oppressions? How do we navigate movement with memory borne from vexed realities while pressing into the now and having control of our futures? Black hair is magical. On the surface it’s dead but deep within our bodies each strain holds a connection to stories, mysteries, codes, self-concept, discovery, and songs of survival. Black hair has found its way to rituals and rites of passages. If wooly coils could speak, what would they say? Simply put, black hair has its own center and centeredness.

Sankofa - an antithesis to "Forget the past, and just move on to the future!" .......Is there any possibility of doing away with the past and starting afresh a journey to a new era? As some people believe, the past is no more and has no influence on the present, let alone the future yet to come. On the other hand, some others are stuck in the past and cannot find the will or the energy to extricate themselves from its shackles to see a possibility for a new and different future. Or maybe there is a third way as portrayed in Haile Gerima's 1993 movie, Sankofa, to go to the past to find the motivation and learn the lessons to make the present and the future better. The movie focuses on the historical accounts and the ramifications of slavery in the U.S., as it still continues to influence the present-day realities despite the fact that it was long gone. It may even possibly continue to do so for years to come if we fail to learn the lessons from our past. The following review by Maya Lee and Davis Waln captures the evocative power of the movie and its relevance to the present day realities of the black diaspora in the U.S.….Read more: https://lnkd.in/gUSyrsrM
