Films have an impact on us as individuals and as society, that is immeasurable and palpable. And now, Hindi Cinema is being used as political pawn to further agendas of hate and divide. Multiple narratives by the ruling regime are now mainstreamed by cinema. Do read my piece for Outlookindia. #Cinema https://lnkd.in/gCJWWNrC

Hello Everyone, here is another one... a strong poetical satire on politics and explains overall trend of how usually powers are misused by Baba Nagarjun a famous hindi poet. At root level its important to understand the poem though uses few relegious words...its not about a reliegon neither about a specific political party..its a satire crticizing trend seen around the world in politics rather in every field when powers are centralized in few hands.Nicely composed by Zubeen Garg as i can recall.https://lnkd.in/dFTGgaJ7

The cost of Private Education ft. Korean CinemaI think that ‘Lady Vengeance’ is the most underrated film in comparison to the other two films (‘Oldboy’ & ‘Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance’) of Park Chan-wook’s ‘The Vengeance Trilogy’. The main difference between ‘Lady Vengeance’ & and the other two films is that it features a female protagonist named Lee Geum-ja (Lee Young-ae).The film is still relevant even after 18 years of its release. It not only deals with ultraviolence and patriarchy but also talks about another dark side of Korean society— The privatization of education and its horrible consequences.Geum-ja reveals that Mr. Baek (Choi Min-sik), the English teacher murders the children of his school and fakes ransom calls to the parents in order to collect money and move to another school. Baek chooses his victims from his schools because he knows that they come from wealthy families. A victim’s sister says that her family was only able to pay by both parents working full-time. This indicates the Korean obsession with private education and the lengths that the parents can go to achieve it.When the families of the victims sit together after killing Baek with the help of Geum-ja, they hand over their bank account numbers to Geum-ja in order to get back the money that Baek took as ransom. This scene suggests that money can and will help them overcome their grief and even fill the places of their lost children. Thus, ‘Lady Vengeance’ poses the ultimate allegorical question to the audience: “What does Private education actually cost?”It may cost the life of the child! On that note, wishing Happy 60 to the Maestro Park Chan-wook! 🎂 Which is your favourite fiilm directed by Park Chan-wook?#parkchanwook #ladyvengeance #koreancinema #filmanalysis #privateeducation #filmstudies #filmmaking

Part of an interview Iranian journalist and Ahmad Talebi-Nejad, Iranian documentary critic, director, and writer, about the evolution of Iranian cinema over the past 40 years.March 7, 2024Part 1**********“The totalitarianism of Iranian television; nothing can be done with a medium that people are protesting against.Ideological films are brainwashing all over the world. Brainwashing works up to a point, but after a while it's like a spring that has been compressed for a long time and as soon as the pressure is released it jumps up.The rebellion that the young Iranian generation has today is the result of their brainwashing in television, propaganda and revolutionary films, and schools, which have been stuffing their brains with all sorts of things from morning to night. Ideological art is incompatible with the human nature that is free-spirited and seeks freedom of thought. You can't keep a human being in an ideological box, like a bird that is in a cage for the rest of its life. He becomes depressed like a bird, he no longer sings and forgets how to fly, but if the cage is opened, he will go to India like the parrot of Rumi (the famous Iranian poet and mystic). We have not learned that we should not talk about ideological issues so directly in films.Of course, I prefer not to say the Fajr International Film Festival of Iran, because in my opinion it is a local and national festival. An international festival has its own criteria; for example, in an international festival, films should not be censored, and if such a thing is to happen, it should be done only for three minutes and that too for social expediency. The next point is that when we add the suffix "international" to a festival, we should also invite some important people from the world cinema to be present there. There are many reasons like this for not accepting the internationality of this festival.#Censorship #cinema #film #movie #iran #art #artist #Theater #Totalitarianism #Ideologicalgovernment #Religion #freedom #democracy #pluralism #Reviewer #literature #Culture #people #power #Limitation #Tyranny #Dictatorship #festival
