The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced five years ago, but since then, players have heard very little from Bethesda. As they have been doing since the game launched, modders have turned to The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim to make their ideal fantasy RPG that can keep up with any of the young guns being released today. Although many would think that players need to spend hundreds of hours scrolling through Nexus and hundreds more trying to get all the mods to play nice, this isn't the case anymore.

Modpacks are becoming more popular. Users can compile a modlist, make sure everything works and submit it for people to download and copy, usually through a website called Wabbajack. This allows players to download thousands of mods at once without worrying whether they will work or not, although Nexus Mods Premium is advised to make the download process as quick as possible. With all these mods, Skyrim can become a game that rivals anything released today.

Modpacks Can Easily Transform Skyrim

Nolvus Is A Standout

Modpacks range from light (with a few hundred mods) to extremely heavy (containing thousands), many of which can cater to a player's specific needs. Although Wabbajack is the site where many find modpacks, one of the most popular can be found on a site of its own. Nolvus provides players with its own software called the Nolvus Dashboard, which handles the installation process for them. This is handy as the modpack requires a minimum of 345GB of SSD storage.

Currently, Nolvus is in its fifth version, although the creator is working on the sixth, and it looks to be one of Skyrim's most impressive. The modpack provides players with stunning visuals, new textures, models, lighting infrastructure, and ENBs to make it look like it was made in Unreal Engine 5. Physics have been added to, meaning that hair and cloth get blown in the wind while a character moves, adding a sense of realism.

Nolvus also provides players with a completely different gameplay experience to base Skyrim. The combat has been modernized with dodging, combos, parrying, and stances while persisting Skyrim bugs have been fixed. Elder Scrolls titles have never been known for great combat, but the modding infrastructure that Bethesda provides allows this to change. It should be noted that the combat is very stylish and not the most realistic compared to other modpacks, which could be a turn-off for those looking for maximum immersion. It is fun, though, and makes the game more difficult.

How To Get Nolvus To Work

Certain Skyrim Editions Are Required

There are a few prerequisites to get Nolvus to work, which are listed on its website. There are several versions of the modpack that players will choose based on their hardware, although the minimum GPU required for any version of Nolvus is a GTX 1080. In general, modpacks aren't the best for those without powerful PCs and can only be downloaded by PC users, so bear this in mind. An SSD is also required.

Skyrim itself needs to be set up in a certain way to get the modpack to work. It must be bought on Steam, Anniversary Edition or Skyrim SE with the AE DLC is required, and all the Creation Club content needs to be downloaded from the game's main menu before anything from Nolvus is installed. For the best results, install Skyrim on another drive so that it isn't in the Program Files (x86) file path, ensuring that it is outside of Windows Protected folders. This is advised for any modpack, not just Nolvus.

Graphic driver settings need to be set up as well, which are shown in detail on the Novlus website. This is done through the Nvidia Control Panel and Skyrim's power management mode will be set to "prefer maximum performance." Once a player has set up their Skyrim and ensured that their PC meets the requirements of the modpack, they can download the Nolvus Dashboard (preferably outside the main drive) and follow the instructions to auto install the modpack.

Is The Nolvus Modpack For Everyone?

Nolvus is brilliant, but it isn't the most immersive modpack, nor is it particularly true to Vanilla Skyrim. It is one of the most visually impressive modpacks around and will appeal to those who care for a world that looks as real as an Unreal 5 tech demo. A decent chunk of Nolvus is dedicated to graphics mods, so if players don't care about visuals, it likely isn't for them. Lighter mod packs are available, like Nordic Souls or more immersive ones, like LoreRim. Both can be found on Wabbajack as alternatives.

Nolvus may be one of the biggest modpacks around, with its largest version requiring 392GB of SSD storage, but it is the easiest to install as it has specific software for auto-installation. With Nexus Premium, it is simple to make Skyrim a next-gen game. It can take a while though, depending on a player's download speed, but if players want a beautiful world with dynamic combat and new content, Nolvus is the modpack for them.
