2024 celebrates the 13th year of Equity Showcase's partnership with the Cayle Chernin Awards and Equity Showcase will be celebrating its 65th Anniversary. As part of the launch of these celebrations the Board of Directors of Equity Showcase along with Artistic Director Alan Mohammed and Executive Advisor, Kevin McCormick have launched a new award called,"The Equity Showcase Champion Award."This inaugural award recognizes an individual who has been dedicated to Equity Showcase over a lengthy time and been a true champion.The award goes to Janis Hobson, who accepted this award at this year's Equity Showcase Cayle Awards. Janis has been in service to Equity Showcase for 40 years. Janis started off in 1984 as an administrator and bookkeeper and moved on to a variety of positions including registrar for the Professional Development Program, Program Manager of the Equity Showcase/ACTRA Works Program, Co-Executive Director, General Manager and is currently Financial Advisor. Aside from her enormous contribution to Equity Showcase, Janis has had a rich and varied career in the Theatre having done significant work for Theatre Ontario, The Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts, Associate Business Manager for Theatre Collingwood and currently works with the Canadian Theatre Museum.Please congratulate Janis on this wonderful achievement.

Congratulations to Guy Maddin on his new feature film, "Rumours" getting a nearly 6-minute long standing ovation at this year's Cannes Film Festival.Guy Maddin is a former Cayle Award Mentor to our 2019 media winner Sonia Gemmiti. Thank you to the Canadian Artists Network for their amazing partnership in providing our award winners with such amazing Canadian talent. "The Cayle Chernin Awards were the first to show confidence in my initial directorial effort. It has had a ripple effect on this new artistic journey; with their support, I was able to approach top talent as collaborators and secure additional funding. A huge congratulations to our 2024 Equity Showcase Cayle Award Recipient for Theatre Development, Rebecca Auerbach for Discount Dave & The Fix.Rebecca is an award-winning actor, writer, singer, music and theatre maker. Born and raised in Vancouver she has worked extensively on stages across the country. She is one of this season's emerging playwrights at Studio 180 where she has been developing her new solo show Discount Dave and The Fix.Recent film and TV credits: Sunset Superman (TUBI), Riley Rocket (Sphere Media/Oasis Animation), Bike (Bell FibeTVOne.Rebecca also plays in the roots/folk/country band Regal Road.
